This body of work is heavily concentrated around themes such as family, memories, and nostalgia. In order to display these themes I depict scenes from my life which include various family members and myself (which are inspired by family photos). This body of work is also concentrated around the process that I mentally/emotionally underwent while creating these paintings. When I’m painting these scenes and moments I’m breathing life into my work. I’m depicting my truth of that memory or moment. My brush strokes express my emotions, while photographs are viewed from an analytical point of view and as a result my work becomes topographical. I am attempting to evoke feelings and emotions (such as love, warmth, security, and nostalgia) within the viewers while using the imagery of my family as a conduit for this.
