These illustrations consider character customization features in various video games and their near limitless capabilities in helping players find a presentation that affirms their true identity. Games with customization features allow people to safely experiment with gender to figure out where they lie on the spectrum without the real world social, familial, financial, and other related limitations that would otherwise discourage going against conventional norms. The characters featured in this work are based on members of the LGBTQIA+ community who have been impacted by this experimentation within video games and contrasted with another character created to address how each individual desires to appear. This opens a dialogue between the figure’s assumed identity and true identity while employing video game related aesthetics in order to connect it back to what started each individual’s journey.
