Oberon Apple is a Filipino nonbinary painter and illustrator living and working in Louisville, Kentucky. Most of their time is spent making art, worrying about the future, and then worrying about the future some more just in case they didn’t worry enough the first few times. Oberon’s work focuses on the deeply personal and the erotic, oftentimes a combination of both. Identity and the inner world is the driving force behind Oberon’s self portraiture, using their own image coupled with bright colors and symbols to reflect things too embarrassing or difficult to outright say in words. In a way, each piece is a diary entry marked by uncertainty surrounding the self and the future. Maybe sometimes the problems you face have no real solution or ending. You can’t always do something about it, but maybe you can draw about it.
